2013 Honoree: John L. Niermeyer

2013-honoree

The Family of John L. Niermeyer (Larry) is grateful to have their husband, father, and grandfather honored at the 2013 tournament.

Larry was born in Columbus and graduated from Bexley High School and the Ohio State University.  He served in the Air Force and was stationed in northern France after college. He married and had three children, all still in Columbus. He worked for his father and eventually became President and CEO of the Columbus Coal & Lime Co. which his great grandfather started in 1888.

He was an avid tennis player. He was extensively involved in the Columbus Rotary where he acted as President. He loved fishing in Canada, time on the beach in Florida, and travelling with his children and grandchildren.

He had an unmatched work ethic often arriving at the office by 5:30 am and remaining in his gardens after work until dark. He was also known for his fairness, honesty, and generosity in the business community. He died from pancreatic cancer in 2009 after a two year battle at the age of 69. He is greatly missed by his family.
